Largely at play in my artwork is the dialogue between choice and chance, intuition and assertion, unconscious gesture and directed mark-making. My practice of layering over and preserving different previous results produces a palimpsest, apparent ghosts of gestures and marks. This method of building up requires balancing many components to achieve compositions that are at once intricate and cohesive. The paintings are frenetic and composed containing residues and recent applications, amorphous abstractions and insinuated figures, glossy and matte textures, thick impastos and minimal glazes, bright and muted pigments. Giving voice to these competing elements, I act as well as alter, allowing active marks and accidental stains to interact on the canvas
